What brings you back?

Ok, just a coupld quick questions. Feel free to answer them here or Wed night at youth group.

What brings you back to Wed Night Youth Group and events? Please be honest and specific. I don’t care if it’s just to play b-ball, the color of the walls, or to text your friends at other youth groups. What brings you back to Wed Night Youth Group and events?

Also, if you could change something about Wed Night Youth Group, what would you change? Again, please be honest. I don’t care if it’s the games, color of the paint, me, the other youth, just be honest. If you could change something about Wed Night Youth Group, what would you change?

post your answers in the comments to be anonymous.

Pascal’s Wager

On Wed, May 13, I mentioned to the youth group about Pascal’s Wager. You can check it out in detail here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager

Basically, it states the following:

1. If we are saved and God does exist, then we go to heaven (good outcome)

2. If we are saved and God does not exist, then we just die (neutral outcome)

3. If we not saved and God does not exist, then we just die (neutral outcome)

4. If we not saved and God does exist, then we go to hell when we die (negative outcome)

SO…based on that…

If you are not saved, you will have either a neutral or negative outcome at death (hell).
If you are saved, you will either have a neutral or positive outcome at death (heaven).
Which is better?

Awesome STORM event

We just had an incredible STORM event on Saturday, May 9.

First, a special thank you to all those who came out to help. Thanks to the 4 drivers who came, the 4 who came to counsel, and others involved.

We started with 8 of our regular youth, headed out in vans/cars to get various friends and invite them to come to the fun. We ended up with 16 youth!

After an icebreaker and welcome, we got into the challenges – Battle of the Sexes. The girls were winning from the start, as they brought more girls than guys.
The contests included being fed food by others, passing marshmallows down a row, jello eating contest, candy eating contest, and even a toothpick-and-cheeseball tower contest.
The guys came on strong and quickly closed the gap in the scores. The contest literally came down to the last challenge. The youth didn’t know, but if the guys won the tower building, we would have had to go to a tie-breaker contest – it was that close!
The girls did win after all, but it was a tight competition and all had a blast.

After the Battle, John Powley spoke to the group about the Bible, sin, and our need of salvation. He also spoke about how Jesus knocks at the door to our heart and asks to come it just as the youth knocked at other’s doors tonight and asked them to join the fun. He gave a clear invitation and led the youth in how to pray to receive salvation. Though none went out to be counseled, we did have at least one indicate that they prayed that prayer for either assurance or for salvation. (That is awesome. We know that she has that now settled with God and is saved!)
John challenged the youth to see what they need to change in their life to let others see that they are Christians.

Overall, a great night. Lots of fun, girls won, at least one assurance of salvation!

Broomhockey

On Sunday, April 26, our youth joined with some other area churches for a time of boomhockey.

Broom hockey is like regular hockey, except you are running on ice. All of the youth had a blast. It did seem like a great idea. Then again, jumping off a building with a cape in order to fly like Superman may seem like a good idea too, but there will be injury. The same happened at Broom Hockey (no, no one tried to jump off a building with a cape).
We discovered the hard way that 150lbs is not supposed to be supported solely on one thumb (right Christian?). Needless to say it is broken. He’ll be in a soft cast for the next 4 weeks. Please pray for him as he heals (and that he doesn’t do anything stupid to prevent it from healing, like trying to play softball).

After the broom hockey, we had time to head over to Maugansville Creamery for icecream. All have a blast eating (and wearing, right Madi?) their icecream. It was a great finish to the day.

We’ll have pics on the youth website soon from the event (and of the injury).
